💬 Creating Custom Commands
Custom Commands let viewers type a word beginning with ! to receive a response or run actions.
Example:
Viewer: !socials
Bot: Follow me at YOUR-LINK
For help with multiple actions, see Action Builder and Action Sequences.
Creating a Command
- Navigate to Bot Commands.
- Select Commands.
- Click New Custom Command.
- Enter the Command trigger without the
!.
socials
- Choose a Category, or leave it Uncategorized.
- Add any optional aliases.
- Choose Who can use it.
- Set the user and global cooldowns.
- Enable the platforms where it should work.
- Enter a Response, add Advanced Actions, or use both.
- Click Create Command.
Make sure the toggle beside the editor title is enabled.
Use Duplicate on an existing Custom Command when you want an independent editable copy. Change its trigger and aliases before saving so they do not conflict with the original.
Command Trigger and Aliases
The trigger is the main word viewers type.
Trigger: social
Usage: !social
Aliases are extra words that run the same command.
Main command: !social
Aliases: !socials, !links
Who Can Use It
Choose the minimum role allowed to run the command:
- Anyone
- Subscriber / Member
- VIP
- Moderator
- Super Mod
- Broadcaster
Higher roles can use commands assigned to lower roles. The broadcaster bypasses permissions and cooldowns.
Cooldowns
User cooldown limits how often the same viewer can use the command.
User cooldown: 30 seconds
Alex uses !social → Alex waits 30 seconds
Global cooldown limits how often anyone can use it on each platform.
Global cooldown: 10 seconds
Alex uses !social → everyone waits 10 seconds
Use 0 to disable a cooldown.
Response and Variables
The Response is what SheevChat sends to chat.
Thanks for asking, {user}! Find my links at YOUR-LINK
Use Insert Variable to personalize the response.
| Variable | Replaced with |
|---|---|
{user} | The viewer using the command. |
{message} | The viewer's full command message. |
{arg:1} | The first word after the command. |
{channel} | Your channel name. |
{pointsName} | Your loyalty currency name. |
Example:
Viewer: !hello Jordan
Response: {user} says hello to {arg:1}!
Choose the Response Style
Set Response style to:
- Send normal message for a standard standalone response.
- Reply to triggering message where supported to thread the response under the viewer's message.
Twitch and Kick support native replies. Other platforms automatically receive a normal message instead. Reply mode also applies to supported chat-message actions when they run from a message-based trigger.
When reply information is available, SheevChat chat feeds and compatible Chat overlays display the original author and message context above the response.
Enable Stream Title and Category Commands
SheevChat includes disabled-by-default moderator commands for changing stream information on Twitch, YouTube, and Kick:
!settitle <title>or!st <title>!setcategory <category>or!setgame,!sc, and!sg
Find these built-in commands in the Commands list, review their moderator permission and enabled platforms, customize their response templates, then enable them. Title responses support {title}; category responses support {game} and {category}.
Configure Quote Commands
SheevChat's built-in quote commands can recall a random or numbered quote and let trusted users add or remove entries. Review each quote command's permissions, cooldowns, platforms, and aliases before enabling it. Restrict add and remove operations to moderators or another trusted role.
See How To Add, Import, and Manage Quotes for chat-message quoting, numbering, imports, and Data Manager controls.
Adding Advanced Actions
Expand Advanced Actions to make the command do more than reply.
- Choose an action category.
- Choose the action.
- Click Add action.
- Complete its settings.
The normal Response is sent first, followed by the numbered actions. Leave Response blank if the command should only run actions.
Command actions can control OBS Studio or Streamlabs Desktop, launch games, roll Credits, change the Master Overlay, trigger alerts, manage clips, and run imported actions.
See How To Create Random and List-Based Chat Commands for community-response recipes and How To Trigger Marketplace Widgets from Commands for interactive overlay commands.
Commands can also create Twitch clips, control Windows audio, change the displayed loyalty name, use random-viewer variables, and run supported TikTok Advanced Actions. Provider-only actions remain limited to the platforms shown by the editor.
Example Action Command
Command: !brb
Who can use it: Moderator
Response: We will be right back!
Action: OBS Studio Control → switch to the BRB scene
Platform Controls
Enable Twitch, YouTube, Kick, or TikTok under Active on platforms when supported. The command is ignored on disabled platforms.
TikTok responses use SheevChat's locally managed browser send queue. They must be link-free, and TikTok must be explicitly enabled; an older all-platform configuration does not silently add it. Custom Command Advanced Actions remain limited to the action and platform combinations shown by the editor.
Viewers can use !cmdsearch <word> to find enabled commands they are allowed to use on their current platform. Results include built-in and custom commands and respect command permissions.
Built-in !vieweroptout and !vieweroptin commands manage random-viewer eligibility. The disabled-by-default Twitch !clip command creates a recent-stream clip. Review their permissions, cooldowns, and platforms before enabling or changing them.
Testing a Command
- Save and enable the command.
- Open Tests from the SheevChat header.
- Test the command with sample arguments.
- Confirm the response, variables, permissions, and actions.
You can also type the command in a connected chat.
Common Problems
- Nothing happens: Confirm the command is enabled and saved.
- Command already exists: Choose a different trigger or alias.
- Viewer is denied: Check Who can use it.
- Command is on cooldown: Wait or lower the cooldown.
- Wrong platform: Check Active on platforms.
- TikTok response is skipped: Remove links or hostname-like text and confirm its browser session is ready.
- Reply appears as a normal message: The platform or triggering event may not support native reply threading.
- Variable appears as text: Check its spelling and required information.
- Action fails: Confirm OBS Studio, Streamlabs Desktop, or the Marketplace app is connected for that action family.
