How To Set Up Viewer Clips and the Clip Overlay

The Clip Overlay downloads viewer-submitted short videos and plays them one at a time in OBS. Supported links include TikTok videos, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, Twitch clips, and Kick clips.

Install the Playback Tools

  1. Open Settings → General → Third-party Dependencies.
  2. Install yt-dlp to resolve and download submitted clips.
  3. Install ffmpeg to transcode clips into the recommended OBS-compatible format.
  4. Wait until both tools show as installed.

These optional tools are downloaded into SheevChat's user-data folder. You do not need mpv for Clip Overlay playback.

Configure the Clip Command

  1. Open Bot Commands → Commands.
  2. Find !playclip and expand it.
  3. Set the minimum viewer permission. Start with VIP or Moderator while testing.
  4. Set user and global cooldowns.
  5. Choose the maximum clip length.
  6. Leave Clip format on OBS Compatible for the safest playback.
  7. Enable only the accepted link sources you want.
  8. Enable the chat platforms where viewers may use the command.
  9. Turn on !playclip when setup is complete.

Accepted clip links control which websites may be submitted. Active platforms control which chats may run the command.

Viewers submit a clip with:

!playclip CLIP-URL

The default aliases include !tt, !tw, !yt, !ki, and !tiktok.

Add the Overlay to OBS

  1. Open Settings → Overlays → Clip Overlay.
  2. Choose Local PC when OBS and SheevChat share a computer, or LAN / Second PC for a streaming PC.
  3. Click Preview, then copy the Clip Overlay URL.
  4. Add an OBS Browser Source and paste the URL.
  5. Use the suggested size of 420 × 760.

Keep SheevChat running. Clips download sequentially and play one at a time. Adjust the Browser Source's audio level through OBS when needed.

You can instead add a Clip widget to an Overlay Builder layout. The active saved layout must contain that widget when a clip starts.

Manage Clips

The !playclip card displays pending downloads, ready clips, temporary storage, and tool status.

  • Refresh updates the displayed status.
  • Clear Queue removes pending and ready clips and stops active playback.
  • Purge removes stored temporary clip files.

Moderators can control the queue from chat:

!playclip skip
!playclip clear
!playclip on
!playclip off
!playclip toggle

Use Clip Actions

Commands, Automations, Timers, and SheevPad can use Queue Video actions:

  • Queue Clip — accepts a clip URL or variable such as {input}.
  • Skip Current Clip
  • Clear Clip Queue
  • Set Clip Command Enabled
  • Toggle Clip Command Enabled

For a Channel Point Automation, add Queue Clip and place {input} in the Clip URL field so the redemption's submitted link enters the queue.

Troubleshooting

  • Tool missing: Return to Third-party Dependencies and install or update yt-dlp and FFmpeg.
  • Source rejected: Enable that website under Accepted clip links.
  • Viewer cannot submit: Check command permissions, cooldowns, platforms, and the !playclip toggle.
  • Overlay is blank: It remains empty until a downloaded clip is ready; confirm the Browser Source URL and keep SheevChat open.
  • Clip fails in OBS: Use OBS Compatible format and confirm ffmpeg is installed.
  • Old files use space: Use Purge after the queue is finished.
