How To Customize Chat Display and Emotes
SheevChat can adjust platform indicators, badges, emote providers, username colors, and reply context without changing the design of your stream overlay.
Configure the Chat Display
- Open Settings → General.
- Expand Display.
- Choose how Platform Indicators appear: dot, icon, or off.
- Enable or disable viewer badges.
- If you use Twitch Shared Chat, choose Show, Dim, or Hide.
- Choose whether to Show chat image previews in SheevChat, docks, Mobile, and the Mod Dashboard.
These options affect SheevChat's chat interface. Overlay Builder Chat widgets keep their own visual settings.
Show Images and Twitch GIPHY
Direct public image links and native Twitch GIPHY content can appear inside supported chat views. Broadcast Chat overlays have a separate image toggle, so showing an image to moderators does not automatically place it on stream.
Only safe public HTTPS image assets are eligible, and Link Guard can block untrusted hosts. See How To Show Image and GIF Previews in Chat for supported formats, safety rules, surfaces, and troubleshooting.
Choose Emote Providers
Expand Emotes in General and enable the providers you want SheevChat to display. Available sources include Twitch, YouTube, 7TV, BTTV, FFZ, and Kick.
Disabling a provider prevents its emotes from being rendered by SheevChat; it does not remove the emote from the platform or provider account.
Browse Providers and Sources
The emote picker uses two navigation rails:
- The first chooses a provider such as Twitch, YouTube, Kick, 7TV, BTTV, or FFZ.
- The second jumps to a source within that provider, such as your channel, a Twitch subscription channel, Hype Train, Prime, Global, Kick channel, or Emojis.
Recent emotes remain first. Search covers every source in the selected provider, and source buttons scroll to their section instead of hiding the other sections. Duplicate emote codes remain available under their respective sources.
Channel profile images and provider marks identify sources. If an owner image cannot be resolved, SheevChat uses the appropriate provider fallback without preventing emote insertion.
Refresh Emotes Without Restarting
When a Twitch, 7TV, BTTV, FFZ, or Kick emote was recently added or changed:
- Open the emote picker beside the chat message field.
- Click Refresh.
- Wait for the refreshed confirmation.
- Search for or insert the emote again.
Refresh reloads SheevChat's emote caches. If one provider fails temporarily, try again after confirming that provider or platform is available.
Let Viewers Choose Username Colors
The built-in color command accepts a color name or hexadecimal color:
!setcolor purple
!setcolor #7c5cff
!setcolor reset
Aliases include !color and !namecolor. Configure the command's permissions, cooldown, platforms, or enabled state under Bot Commands → Commands.
SheevChat gives custom username colors subtle theme-aware backing so they remain readable across light and dark app themes. Colors are no longer rejected only because they have low contrast with the current theme.
Understand Reply Context
Supported Twitch and Kick replies show the original author's name and message context above the reply in SheevChat chat feeds and compatible Chat overlays. This context is automatic when the platform supplies reply information.
Hover over or keyboard-focus a normal message in the main Chat panel to reveal compact Reply, Quote, and Pin actions. Reply uses native threading for supported Twitch and Kick messages. YouTube and TikTok fall back to an @username mention sent to the message's source platform.
To make a custom command respond as a native reply, choose Reply to triggering message where supported under its response style. Other platforms receive a normal chat response.
Choose Quote to save the message with its username and source attribution. See How To Add, Import, and Manage Quotes.
Common Problems
- A new emote is missing: Confirm its provider is enabled, open the emote picker, and click Refresh.
- One provider does not refresh: Verify the connected platform or third-party provider is currently available, then retry.
- A username color does not change: Confirm
!setcoloris enabled for that platform and the viewer is not on cooldown. - A reply has no context: The source event may not contain reply metadata, or the platform may not support it.
- Chat and an overlay look different: App chat settings and Overlay Builder widget styling are configured separately.
- Image appears in one place only: App chat and broadcast-overlay preview settings are independent.
