How To Import StreamElements Custom Widgets
SheevChat can import compatible StreamElements custom-widget exports and run them as isolated Marketplace Item widgets inside Overlay Builder.
Before You Import
Obtain the widget as a .zip or .sheevpack. A normal StreamElements custom-widget export may include HTML, CSS, JavaScript, fields.txt, data.txt, images, audio, fonts, and other assets.
Only import files from a source you trust. Custom widgets contain executable JavaScript. SheevChat isolates imported widgets from its built-in widgets, but you should still treat unknown packages like other downloaded software.
StreamElements compatibility is broad, not unlimited. Widgets that depend on undocumented browser behavior, unsupported StreamElements APIs, external services, or missing assets may need changes from their publisher.
Import the Widget
- Open Marketplace from the SheevChat header.
- Click Import Local.
- Select the widget's
.zipor.sheevpackfile. - Wait for SheevChat to inspect and install it.
- Switch to Installed Apps.
- Find the card labeled Local StreamElements import.
SheevChat automatically recognizes compatible StreamElements export files and preserves supported markup, styling, scripts, fields, saved defaults, media, fonts, counters, and package-local assets.
Review any Local import diagnostics. A warning does not always prevent the widget from loading, but missing runtime files or assets should be resolved before going live.
Add It to Overlay Builder
- Open Settings → Overlays → Open Overlay Builder.
- Create or select a saved overlay.
- Add a Marketplace Item widget.
- Select the imported widget under Widget pack.
- Position and resize its frame.
- Save the overlay.
Marketplace Items begin with no package selected. Adding the widget type alone does not choose your imported package.
Configure Widget Fields
Select the Marketplace Item and expand Widget Fields. Depending on the original fields.txt, SheevChat may provide text boxes, colors, sliders, dropdowns, checkboxes, media selectors, font controls, text areas, buttons, or other supported controls.
Field changes apply to this Marketplace Item instance. Use per-field reset or reset-all controls when you want to return to the imported defaults.
Use Frame Style only for the SheevChat-owned wrapper. Its background is transparent by default so the imported widget can control its own visual surface.
Test the Widget
- Click Sample Chat for a chat-style widget.
- Click Sample Alert for an event-style widget.
- Expand Runtime Status.
- Check readiness, routed events, asset/font/audio requests, queue state, logs, and errors.
- Use Reinitialize after fixing a package or field problem.
- Preview the saved overlay before adding its URL to OBS.
Imported widgets receive normalized multi-platform chat and supported events from Twitch, YouTube, Kick, and TikTok. StreamElements-specific names are translated where compatibility is available.
Update or Replace a Local Import
Local imports are not automatically updated from the Marketplace. Import the publisher's newer package, then use Reload / Refresh. Reopen Overlay Builder and verify that existing field overrides and assets still behave correctly.
Common Problems
- Package imports but displays nothing: Select it inside a Marketplace Item, save, then run Sample Chat or Sample Alert.
- Needs attention: Open its Installed Apps card and review local diagnostics and dependencies.
- Image, font, or sound is missing: Confirm the asset was included in the export and check Runtime Status requests and errors.
- Fields are missing: The export may not include compatible
fields.txtmetadata. - Widget works in Preview but not OBS: Save the overlay, refresh the OBS Browser Source, and confirm OBS uses the correct saved-overlay or Master Overlay URL.
- Widget expects an unsupported API: Check with the widget publisher; importing does not guarantee perfect compatibility with every StreamElements feature.
