How To Manage Private Viewer Nicknames and Notes
Private nicknames and notes help you recognize viewers and remember useful context. They remain inside SheevChat and are never substituted into public messages.
Add a Nickname or Note
- Open a viewer's User Card from Chat, Events, or the Viewers list.
- Find the private viewer details.
- Enter a Nickname, a Note, or both.
- Save the viewer card.
Use a nickname for a familiar internal label. Use notes for short context that should remain private, such as pronunciation guidance or a moderation reminder.
Understand the Names You See
SheevChat keeps the viewer's canonical platform username as their account identity. YouTube and TikTok may also supply a separate display name.
When a private nickname is saved, new messages in SheevChat's main, dock, and mobile chat views can show it in parentheses. The canonical username remains available so you can identify the correct account.
Keep Private Details Private
Private nicknames and notes do not appear in:
- Messages sent to platform chat
- Overlays or Marketplace widgets
- Public event payloads
- Command and Action Builder variables used for outbound content
Continue using normal viewer variables such as {user} when a public action needs the platform username. Do not copy private notes into a message or action unless you intentionally want that text made public.
Common Problems
- A nickname is missing from an older message: Nicknames apply to newly displayed messages; they do not rewrite existing chat history.
- The wrong viewer was edited: Check the platform and canonical username on the User Card before saving.
- A public message uses the platform name: This is intentional. Private nicknames never replace public account identity.
